Have just finished watching Monday's ep of Guiding Light - aka The One Where Bill and Lizzie Finally Tied The Knot!!

It was truly lovely - the vows were just gorgeous, and everyone looked like they were having the time of their lives filming it!! Even though it's got to be so hard at the moment as the end of filming date approaches (middle of August, I believe).

And the Phillip and Beth scene at the end just KILLED me dead!! I swear to God, I never liked Beth before this year. Now since she's lost Coop and found a backbone, I'm loving her! And it helps that Beth Chamberlain and Grant Aleksander have mad chemistry! I just hope that Philip manages to survive the last episode, because watching him die for real would just be too hard.

The other soap I'm loving at the moment is Y&R. Philip Chancellor III is back in town, Cane has been exposed as a con-man and this is just great soap!! (Well, it would be if Thom Bierdz could actually act.... I'd even settle for just emoting at the moment!) Admittedly, the storyline is full of plot holes so wide you could fit a HGV through them, but I'm just totally suspending my disbelief and going along for the ride! The best thing about the storyline, by far, is Tricia Cast kicking ass and taking names as P3's widow Nina.  Nina's gone from shocked to angry to confused and back to angry and all the while TC has been AWESOME -  the scene in the hospital room where she lashed out at Phillip was just brilliant - here's the YouTube clip where Phillip is explaining his accident wasnt an accident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsEA7i1V1pc - Nina's smackdown starts at about 7.25, and here's what she had to say:

You grew up without a father because he died in a horrible car crash. How could you turn around and-- and do that to your own child? You know, when Phillip was growing up, I told him again and again the story about how his father-- the last day that he spent on this earth-- the last thing he did was reach out to his son and take his hand because that's how much he loved his little boy. I told him that you were in heaven with the angels watching over him. You've made a liar out of me because you wanted to be dead rather than be a part of your son's life. How could you do that? How could you do that to your son?!

I'm really hoping she submits some of this stuff for next years Emmy Awards, because it's just that good!

So, the big soap casting news that hit the blogsphere today: Crystal Chappell is on her way back to Days of our Lives to reprise her role as Dr Carly Manning.   http://daytimeconfidential.com/2009/06/11/omfg-crystal-chappell-returns-to-days

Crap, that means I'm going to have to watch Days once she starts airing.....

Also, it's a hammer blow to the (admittedly slim) chances of GL being picked up by another network, as CC / Otalia is the biggest draw they have at the moment.

In other GL news, there is a rather unsettling rumour going around.... am erring on the side of caution and putting it under a cut tag, as it's storyline related as opposed to casting:

spoiler below..... )

[livejournal.com profile] cheapevilgirl , not sure if you're still avoiding AfterElton - just in case you are, here's the direct link for an interview they did with Thom Bierdz. There's an awful lot of "I can't answer that" in it, but it's a great read: http://www.afterelton.com/TV/gayslives/05-26-09?page=0%2C0

And here's the link to a different interview he did with the Advocate: http://www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid84724.asp

In other soap links, the Goddess that is Crystal Chappell updated her website blog: http://www.ccandfriends.com/blog/ with a really lovely post. She's also joined up to Twitter; so far today she's been tweeting from the set of the July 4th Bauer BBQ, which IS actually a Bauer BBQ this year as Danny and Michelle are back!!! (And I admit, I signed up to Twitter just so that I can follow her tweets. How sad is that??)

And in really sad news: Ethan Zohn, winner of Survivor Africa back in the day, has announced he's battling cancer. Link to People.com article There's also a video on the site where it shows him getting his trademark mop of curls cut off before he undergoes his first session of chemo.

And now, I'm off to watch the remainder of the Champions League Final - not going our way at the moment though!!!!

ABC Soaps in Depth is reporting that Ric Hearst is leaving GL.... this ties in with Daytime Confidential's report that has him this close to inking a deal with B&B.

Sad as it is to say, I'm inclined to believe he'd go to B&B as opposed to GL - better long term prospects, plus he'd be staying on the West Coast. No word yet as to whether he'd be reprising the role of Whip or whether it would be a new character entirely.

In other casting news, Tom Pelphrey is coming back in the summer; hopefully Phillip will track down Jonathan and Sarah and reunite her with Lizzie... either that or Reva takes a turn for the worse....

Lastly, reports continue to circulate that Telenext are still on negotiations with cable channels to continue GL, and that they're going well (I believe there was a rumour going round at the weekend that it had been picked up). Fingers crossed....

According to Daytime Confidential, the following three iconic characters may be making their return to the show in the near future:

Maureen Garrett (Holly)
Peter Simon (Ed Bauer)
RICK HEARST (Alan-Michael Spaulding)

Do I even need to tell you how happy this makes me, especially the last one??? I've been crossing my fingers and toes for this since GH bumped Rick to recurring (and even before then). Seeing A-M and Phillip sparring again would be made of epic win!

DC goes on to say that Ed would be back for a big Bauer BBQ that's being planned. (I guess this also ties in with the Manny return) As yet there's no word on Maureen Garrett's story, but she's indicated she'd be happy to come back.

I really really hope this comes to pass.....

Soap Opera Digest is now reporting that Nancy St Alban is returning to GL as Michelle Bauer Santos. Plans for a recast were scrapped after the cancellation announcement.

Oy.

Nothing against NSA, I'm sure she's a lovely person but there are no words for how much I loathed her portrayal of Michelle. (Okay, there are words, but much of them are of the four letter variety).

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Paul Anthony Stewart is reprising his role as GL's Danny in May.... Colour me surprised and delighted!!

I also saw that Beth Ann Bonner (ex-Talia, OLTL) has been cast on GL in an unspecified role... In light of the above, I'm now wondering if it's possible that she's a recast for Michelle? (cheapevilgirl, misssimm, am I barking up the wrong tree here do you think?)

Of course, my big dream is that Danny come back and sweeps Marina off her feet, saving us all from the suckitude that is Marina and Mallet....

FU CBS

Having finally gotten to watch Friday's GL, that sums it up perfectly!!

Such a brilliant episode, full of old fashioned soapy goodness. Natalia finally breaking and confessing to Olivia "I'm not in love with Frank! I'm in love with you!!" and the two of them talking in the gazebo, trying to work out what it is that's between them and where they go from here... this is right up there with GL at its best; and I just can't believe that THIS is when CBS decide to cancel the show.

The f*****s.

And it's not just Otalia that's making this show so good - everyone is on fire right now. The kid who plays Emma is a real find; she seems so natural! Her scenes with Buzz and Frank were great - I feel really bad for Frank at the moment, he's so desperate for love and for a family that he can't see what's right in front of him - though hopefully that won't last for long!

Bill and Lizzie continue to be adorable; though the reverse is that of James and Daisy, who are still all kinds of wrong (SHE USED TO BE HIS SISTER!!!!! - yes, I'm not letting go of that anytime soon).

Alan has descended into a complete cardboard villian who is about to start mustache twirling anytime now - I can't believe he had Phillip sectioned (ok, I can believe it, but not that Aunt Alex went along with it!!) The part of the ep which had me hitting rewind (ok, the non-Otalia part) was when Phillip made the crack about the Spauldings having a group therapy session and Alex came out with this really false laugh - Grant just lost it and had a complete giggle fit just as Bill walked into the room!

And considering CC's comment in her Friday chat that they do most of the scenes in one take, I am amazingly impressed that he got himself under control so quick!!

Have just spent the last hour and a half watching the eps of Guiding Light that aired yesterday, Wednesday and Tuesday - Good God, can we just give Crystal Chappell the Emmy now and have done with it? Becuase she was just on fire - the whole graveside confession was gutwrenching, and her watching Natalia as she stood with Frank at the altar... GUH!!!! There are just no words for how much I'm looking forward to the ep that airs today - it should be a doozy!!

The other thing I liked about these eps is that they actually gave Frank some good stuff - during the whole "third wheel" speech, you really got a sense of how lonely Frank actually is, and it's that loneliness that is forcing him to rush into this marriage with Natalia, even though he has a very clear idea that something's not right. It reminds me of the Frank we saw with Eleni, back when Melinda Kanakaredes was on the show and Frank actually had a storyline!!

Also, Olivia calling him "Frankie" - good memories!!

In other Springfield news, Shayne and Dinah continue to be hot.

I like the new James - he looks like he could be the son of Grant Aleksander and Beth Chamberlain.

However, I do NOT like the whole James and Daisy thing - seriously, I spent most of their scenes shrieking "HE USED TO BE YOUR BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" at the laptop (the yelling is freaking my mum out it must be said). The other thing that drove me to distraction was the whole texting in church thing - Marina's look of shock and disgust was right on the money! This is the whole problem with their refusal to adequately SORAS Daisy - she should be older than Marina, not younger. And for the life of me I can't work out why they didn't pair James with the similarly crazily SORAS'ed Leah Bauer - can you imagine, Phillip's son and Rick's daughter?? The story practically writes itself!!

Not sure if anyone is interested in this, but here's a link to a Save GL petition - it's aiming to get 10,000 signatures, and I was #6105 just a few minutes ago.

OK, not an April Fools.... Just googled GL, and here's what popped up:

Telenext: GUIDING LIGHT Era Concludes in September (We Love Soaps) )

There are no words to express how much this sucks. (OK, there are, but they're all four letter ones.) As misssimm says, how can you cancel a show with so much history??? Especially now, when they've finally got a handle on the new production model, when Otalia is really taking off and making waves and when you've FINALLY got Grant Aleksander back, when every single person on that cast is bringing their A game! It's beyond ridiculous that CBS are cancelling it now, when it's just beginning to turn a corner.

And they've just finished the big Bizzie location shoot down in Universal Studios, flying most of the cast down there to do photo-shoots and panels. I saw a quote from Robert Newman (Josh) where he implied that that was a good sign - why spend all that money and then pull the plug? Mind you, an article yesterday said that the cancellation rumours stunned Ellen Wheeler, she had apparently been told that GL would be renewed. ....

Someone on TWOP has just posted they're more upset than they were when Another World was cancelled. And you know what?? So am I.

Just saw article saying that GL has been cancelled, final episode to air 18th September.

No words.

(other than I hope this is a particularly nasty April Fool)

Just finished watching Tuesday's ep of Guiding Light.

Not ashamed to admit this did get the tears going. I don't think I'll be able to listen to "Downtown" for a good long while.
smiley_b: (Phillip)
The Phillip Effect continues - eps are downloaded wicked fast, and even if they weren't they would be well worth the wait! And it's not just the Phillip stuff that is brilliant - it's everything, right across the board. The writing is just fantastic!

Yesterday's ep was a case in point - watched it earlier on, and there was not one bit that I fast-forwarded through. The Coop/Lizzie scenes were lovely, and the Beth/Coop stuff just broke my heart. I take back every negative thing I ever said about Beth Chamberlain; she has been knocking it out of the park for the last few eps, and I can't wait to see what Beth does next. Because I believe her when she promised Coop she'd never go back to Alan, and it'll be interesting to see how she copes now.

Coop flatlining at the end was horrible - I knew it was coming, but still.... both JD's did a great job! Fiona is in tomorrow's ep, so she's either going to guide Coop into the light or be comforting Buzz. Either way, I don't care!!

Now, off to watch BSG......
smiley_b: (Phillip)

Ok, it's definitely the Phillip Effect - GL downloaded in half an hour today!! This does not happen usually!

Phillip being Mr Just Cause & Impediment was every bit as good as I thought it would be, and the look on his face when everyone scarpered when they heard about Coop was classic! Anyone who knows me knows I don't like Beth, but her reaction and the faint was brilliant.

In non-Phillip stuff, Marina and Mallet really are a chemistry free zone, aren't they? I also spy a lawsuit in the hospitals future - leaving a seriously injured Coop in that room? I hope Buzz takes them to the cleaners!

smiley_b: (Phillip)

Maybe it was in honour of Phillip Spaulding Day, but yesterday's GL torrent downloaded in jig time!! Phillip was only in the last 10 seconds or so of the show, but my word it was worth the wait! And tomorrow (or today if you're in the US!) he crashes Beth and Alan's wedding! (Mr Just Cause and Impediment!!)

But the best scene of the show was, without question, the Buzz and Jenna stuff. (Let me nail my colours to the mast now - I loved Buzz and Jenna, and consider the decision to kill her off to be the height of stupidity.) And ten years since she left, Fiona and Justin still have that mad chemistry. Best line - "My darling, I'm here to tell you you're being a horses's arse."

Cannot wait for tomorrow's ep.....

smiley_b: (Phillip)
Of course, I won't get to download the ep until tomorrow, but never mind!!

Understandably, GL are really hyping this up - surfing around YouTube, there are a load of clips interviewing the other actors about Phillip's return - the best of which is Michael O'Leary's:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF2Y2D_jP-M

Best part is where you see them relaxing in their dressing room and Grant is talking about how Rick is "Dr Death", asking "How many times is it you've killed me?"

Am now off to trawl YouTube for more clips.....

[livejournal.com profile] cheapevilgirl , not sure if you've seen these spoilers for next weeks GL:
