Bullet point update, as it's all my brain is capable of right now....

+ I discovered yesterday morning that there is something worse than training a class at 7.30am in the morning, and that's disciplining the apprentice who fell asleep in middle of the video presentation which forms the bulk of the 7.30am training class. Not fun, particularly when he answered me back with all the reasons he fell asleep (in til 8pm the night before, not home til late) and trying to wiggle out of doing the course again next week! (Joke was on him though - I was straight on the phone to his foreman, who proceeded to ream him up one side and down the other and sent him up to my desk to apologise for being so disrepectful! Good times!)

+ Then I got a phone call in the office from my cousin who had a computer issue - that was grand, but given that she's very very pregnant with a due date of last Saturday, and her husband works on my site (where the mobile reception is rubbish in the buildings!) the heart went crossways on me when I saw her name on caller ID!

+ Haven't been posting much about Strictly here; I think part of the problem with that is I feel quite disengaged from the show this year. I like some of the competitors and still love most of the pros, but I don't have a favourite couple this year. Added to this the fact that Judy Murray has well overstayed her welcome (seriously, she dragged Andy out last week. She got to Blackpool. Can she go now?) and that the judges scoring is more bonkers that ever this year - James Jordan and Camilla Dallerup's twitter feeds are interesting given what they think and how the judges score! I'll keep watching, but the sparkle isn't quite there for me last year. (Especially after last Saturday's shenanigans of the Daily Fail's hatchet job on Ola. Producer manipulation is high this year - if I wanted that, I'd watch the X Factor!)

+ As ever, am behind on my shows. However I have seen up to episode 4 of Scandal, and think I will be having a marathon of 5- 8 this weekend - from what I've seen, Bellamy Young is just stealing the show as Mellie (or "eff it Mellie" as Bellamy christened her on Twitter). My unpopular opinion is that I like Jake with Olivia, and I loathe her and Fitz and indeed Fitz in general. He is a horrible human being and what people see in the Olitz romance is just absolutely beyond me!!

Holy Moly, this has been a long week. I was in work on Thursday and couldn't believe that it was only Thursday; it felt like it should be next Wednesday!!

That said, work is good - crazy busy, but I have to say that I'm finding being in an open plan office is doing wonders for my productivity!! Am developing a nice project that will not only keep me nice and busy and give me something to stick my teeth into; but also has the potential to raise my profile in the company, so that's kind of exciting!

In other news, I bought a new car today! Current car is 3 years old, and once it hits 4 years old here it has to go for an NCT test every 2 years..... plus my dad is big on changing cars every 2-3 years so you get the maximum trade in value out of it..... And of course I brought him with me as he drives a very hard bargain (last time out he almost made the salesman cry!) so I wound up with a very nice deal! Should have it in 10-14 days - very excited!!

Is it wrong that I'm developing an interest in this years American Idol because Keith Urban is on the panel?

And because I just posted on leobrat's LJ about this - I am SERIOUSLY LOVING Elizabeth and AJ on General Hospital! They are so sparkly and awesome and displaying some serious chemistry - it's a real, old-fashioned slow burn of a romance (as opposed to the insta-romance we've become accustomed to seeing on GH!) and I am so enjoying it! (And crossing fingers and toes that the writers don't eff it up!)

And yes, I am fully aware of the ridiculousness of having that as a headline given the fact its the depths of winter outside!

This is how I spent my break from work - culling icons I haven't used in ages and probably never will again, and changing to a pretty new theme.

I think that was a pretty productive use of my time, yes?

Almost had heart failure a few minutes ago; 2 year old niece was over watching YouTube on my iPhone, and when she handed it back to me I knew she'd managed to delete an icon, but not which one.

After dropping her home, I took out the phone, went to connect it to Wi-Fi.... and copped the icon she'd managed to delete was the Settings one.

Yanno, the one that's kind of important!!

Thank goodness for Google, from which I found out how to reset the home screen, which solved the problem.

The unfortunate flip side is that all my icons are now in different places, which is just killing my anal retentive, borderline OCD self!!

Ah well, I'll get used to it...

In other news, I downloaded Google Chrome onto the laptop this morning - holy moly, I'm in love! I think the Tumblr Saviour extension is going to be my new best friend....

And I've just remembered Smash starts in 20 minutes on Sky Atlantic, so guess what I'm off to watch!!

Posted via LiveJournal app for iPhone.

Got an e-mail this morning from easytrip (national road toll company) informing me that my credit card had expired, and suggesting that I update my details. Fair enough, except I didn't have the new card with me at work so I said I'd do it when I got home (after checking there was enough in the account to actually get me through the toll going home!)

So I've just opened the website, clicked on the login button.....

So what could I do except update my other most used accounts (iTunes, Amazon, Book Depository) - and while I was in the last site my finger slipped and I pre-ordered Born to Darkness, the new Suzanne Brockmann novel. Oops....

Hot on the heels on the remake that we're not talking about becuase it's just wrong and should never happen, this popped up in my twitter feed this morning:

CW to develop remake of "Beauty and the Beast"

It'sbeing described as "a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist."

Given that I loved the original, I'm a little but wary of this news......

I've been battling a cold all week, and today is the first day that I've woken up and felt decent, as opposed to wading through cotton wool. This is a Good Thing.

Also discovered that Lady Antebellum have a Christmas CD out. How did I not know this??

Reading the f-list this morning, I discovered that Maks from DWTS is now appearing in the Ukrainian version of The Bachelor. *mind boggles* He posted a message on his forum about it - details are c&p'ed behind the cut to spare the uninterested....

Lastly, today is the Childrens Christmas Party at my work's head office, so myself and [ profile] helsinkibaby  are bringing Nimoy into that, which should be good fun!! And the SCD Final is tomorrow night - can't wait!!

Considering that I am flying to Australia for 3.5 weeks hols on Tuesday, I really should be packing.

Instead I have had 2 glasses of wine with my sunday dinner and am faffing about on the internets, waiting for the packing fairies to appear and put the stuff that I have piled on my bed into the suitcase.... that plan is not working so well!

Was over with [ profile] helsinkibaby earlier on raiding her wardrobe (she is a saint, have borrowed heaps of stuff!!)

Am told by my cousin its VERY warm over there at the mo, 30 degrees and very hot!!!

Leave on Tuesday, back in Ireland on Sunday 28th November.... when I shall most possibly be withering wirth the cold!!

Read earlier on this morning that the original BH90210 premiered 20 years ago today. Good grief, that makes me feel old.

So I'm thinking on shiny happy things, such as last Thursday's ep of Law&Order UK, which had great acting from Jamie Bamber and an absolutely adorable Matt/Alesha scene (points at icon) that had me squeeing - considering I was tucked up in bed with a cold, feeling utterly rotten, this was some accomplishment!!

And of course, last weekend was the start of the new season of Strictly Come Dancing! And considering I was lukewarm at the thoughts of this series, I really really enjoyed it!! Thoughts are behind the cut (for it is looooonng....)

dadadadadadadada...... )

So, having seen Peter from Popstars: The Rivals eliminate himself live on air all those years ago, to the wardrobe malfunctions of Lilia and Karen on Strictly Come Dancing, you'd think you'd know all about the perils of live TV, right?

Watch this clip - - it's the finale of Australias Next Top Model which took place yesterday, in which the presenter ANNOUNCES THE WRONG WINNER.

I can't work out if its excruciatingly embarrassing or the most glorious stuff-up I've ever seen.

Just found a link to a blog she writes for - in the blog she posted a couple of days ago, she answered fans questions, including how she'd like to see Firefly end:

in my perfect imagination, it ends a little something like this: Nine glorious seasons later, Kaylee and Simon have had several beautiful brunette babies, a couple of which have turned out to be crazy geniuses like their Auntie River (Firefly: the Next Generation?), and one who mysteriously looks a lot like Matthew Fox, who became a regular cast member in season six. River has finally found her marbles and is now captaining her own ship with her loyal second-in-command, Jayne, who claims that River is the best captain he's ever known. Saffron is now their mercenary, and Jayne's lover. And because this is the future and vast discoveries have been made in the world of medicine, Jayne is pregnant with their first child. Inara and Mal finally profess their undying love for each other while Inara is, well, dying in his arms (something gruesome, lotsa blood), and Mal finally realizes that life is short. And promptly confesses his (other) undying love to Zoe. And she promptly punches him in the face.

Awesome! Link to blog is

Am shamelessly robbing boosting the signal from [ profile] helsinkibaby 's post hyuh:  a complete box set of The Golden Girls (all seven seasons!) has been released, encased in A REPLICA OF SOFIA'S PURSE!!!!!

Seriously, flailing all over the place right now!!

Picture it, Sicily, 1913......

So, I did as I was told by Nana and didn't venture into work this morning. And I'm glad I didn't - just rang FavouriteUncle!Jim, who works on the same site, and who did make it in - roads are lethal, there is no water on site because the pipes are frozen, and there was a heavy snow shower there at 10 this morning. I've been keeping up with my mails though; there is something very decadent at being able to reply to work e-mails in my jammies!!

Having seen the weather forecast though, might not make it in on Monday either - Met Eireann are forecasting "a significant snow event" for the east coast of Ireland on Sunday. That's Met speak for "we don't know how mcuh is coming or where on the east coast it will land, so batten down the hatches all over!!"

Am attempting to be slightly productive though and am burning DVD's so I can clear off my external hard drive - 500GB and I'm down to my last 36GB!!!

In fandom news, I saw the cast list for the new series of Survivor: Heroes vs Villians. Unsurprisingly, Rupert (Pearl Islands) is on the Heroes side (pause while I search for my eyes, which have rolled out of my head!). Surprisingly, there is no Johnny Fairplay on the Villians side, although they do have Sandra from that season as a villian (okay then.....) But the big news for me, and what will have me avidly watching this season after not watching the last few, is that one of the Heroes is COLBY DONALDSON, winner of the Australia season and who was voted out far too early in All Stars. I love this guy!!! (IMO, the only Survivor who can talk about playing the game with integrity and not have me throwing things at the mention of the I word!)

Boston Rob is also there, plus James the gravedigger (aka the dumbest survivor ever, who got voted out while holding not one, but TWO immunity idols!!!) And Tom, from Palau (I remember [ profile] helsinkibaby , who was spoiled, coming into the room to watch that final immunity challenge with me, just so she could see my reaction!!)

It starts airing on February 20th - this is going to be a long wait!!

Today is the first day all week where I've actually felt well - thank goodness!!! Had a phone call from my General Manager this evening to check how I was, and a text from one of the engineers this morning telling me he hoped I was feeling better, also that he'd paid me into the lotto syndicate so I might have something to celebrate!!

It's actually quite sad how touched I am by the calls and texts I've gotten - I was off sick for 3 weeks when I worked in the HR Dept, and only 1 of the girls (who I was quite pally with) actually bothered to text every now and then to see how I was. So it's nice to know that people actually give a monkeys ( /pity party!!)

Just checked my FB for the first time this week - one of my RL friends did one of those "Which X Factor contestant are you most like?" quizzes, and her answer was Stacy. And may God forgive me, I laughed, because they are actually quite similiar!!! (This particular friend, when she was backpacking round Australia a couple of years ago, would send me postcards with just my address on them, no sender name. Granted, they always reached me because I live on a country road with just 3 houses on it, but still.....)
smiley_b: (oltl_kish_newspaper)
Still sick, though much better than I was at the start of the week! Have finally stopped sneezing, though my sinuses are bunged up and I'm all headachey - thank god for solpa-sinus, which makes the pain all go away!!

Have been out of work all week, which seems to be causing great concern to the lads I work with: one of my foremen sent me a text yesterday afternoon - "R U still above ground?" - and my Contracts Manager rang this afternoon to see how I was - he started the conversation by telling me he needed my address,  as he had Massey's on the other line and wanted to know where to send them!! (For those of you who aren't familiar with Ireland, Massey's is a large firm of funeral directors who have premises all over the country)

The good part of the conversation with CM was when I mentioned I'd try to make it in tomorrow and he basically told me not to worry about it, make sure I was fully better and come back on Monday. Which makes me feel a teeny bit better at being out all week....

Blah..... am sick. Stayed home from work today, as I am a sneezy, snotty mess and I just couldn't face going onto site in this condition. I always seem to get colds around this time of year - that being said, once it stays as a cold and doesn't migrate into tonsilitis / sinusitis / chest infection, I'll be happy!

That said, it could be worse - FavouriteUncle!Jim has been out of work since last Wednesday with the flu, and there is a chance that it could be H1N1 - this is particularly bad because Jim is the uncle who had a severe heart attack in June 2007, so it's the last thing he needs. Plus my Dad came home from work a little while ago, and he was on my site this afternoon for a safety walk - he brought home the news that my QS is out sick, he also has a bout of cold / flu and can barely speak (which is a real accomplishment, because this guy never usually shuts up...)

Watched ITT this evening - both my faces were on (points to icon). Have to say I felt so sorry for Zoe and James - that dance off was a complete joke on Saturday night (I would rant longer about this, but feel too crap...) especially when they showed their Best Bits, and James got all weepy and made that crack about how he'd spent four years perfecting his bad boy image and they were ruining it all!!

Have to ask though, am I the only who one thinks it's a bit ridiculous that on Saturday night, Bruce and Tess were all shocked at the way the voting had gone? I mean, Craig should have gone, because he's obviously the worst dancer left. But for the last 3 weeks, when some of the couples in the dance off have been surprising (Zoe & James 2 weeks ago, Jade & Ian last week, the absolute travesty that was Saturday just gone), the BBC have been banging the whole "Craig wants to dance in Blackpool!! It's his hometown!!! He must get there even though he's crap!!!" drum; so if they keep harping on about it, they can't very well turn around and complain when the public keep him in!!
smiley_b: (rush_lawsonkerry)
Evening of two halves this has been - the latest ep of Rush, which aired today in Australia, is nowhere to be found. Bit of a pain, because from what I've read it sounds so good and I'm dying to see it!!!

On the other hand, I managed to find the new Buble album, and he does a version of "Heartbreak Tonight" by The Eagles. On paper, it shouldn't work, but it really, really does!!!

Was out last night, so I missed the female celebs on DWTS; came back in just in time to see Kelly and Louis perform an encore of their Viennese Waltz, which was gorgeous!!! Also saw the tribute to Patrick Swayze, which was just GORGEOUS. Tony and Cheryl dancing to "Time of my Life" was just brilliant - I squeed my head off!! (My poor mother.....)

Here's the link for anyone who didn't see it....
smiley_b: (oltl_kish_newspaper)
LJ is up and down like a fiddlers elbow tonight - and for once it's not my crappy internet connection!! What the heck is going on?? At least Twitter is still up and running (crossing fingers....)

Seeing as I couldn't faff around on LJ, I decided to spend my time productively and burn stuff to DVD from my external HD - seeing as we're at the start of the new TV season, and my external HD is quite full, it makes sense!! So have got some done, and have a list of stuff to burn off over the weekend (love my lists, I do!)

Also, thanks to jyl22075, I was able to watch today's Kish (Kyle and Fish) clips from One Life To Live. I swear, this storyline is just so damn good right now. Great acting and writing - and I have to say, having seen Brett Claywell as mostly comic relief on One Tree Hill, it's great to see what he can do with decent material. The whole storyline is just so deliciously soapy and I love it! I'm also really loving Cristian and Layla - her line today where she said that if Prince Charming walked in, she wouldn't notice actually had me laughing out loud!

Now, I'm going to head to my bed - so glad today is Friday and I get a lie in tomorrow (these 5.30 mornings when its pitch black and cold outside are just horrible - and sadly it's only the beginning of them!! It is going to be a LOOOOONNNNG winter!)

I complain that I'm tired and instead of crawling to my bed like a normal person, I open up photoshop and start faffing about!!

This is the result - one of my favourite moments from this weekend's Strictly; I am starting to adore James to a worrying degree!! (Think my next project is going to be a "Team Jordan" icon, but that'll be over the weekend when I'll hopefully have caught up on my sleep!!

And with that, I am going to bed (where I shall resist the temptation to use the Twitter app on my iPhone!!)
smiley_b: (MeasureInLove)
Dear God I'm tired....

Today was busy enough in the office... I think I made myself slightly busier by LJ-ing and tweeting backwards and forwards with [ profile] misssimmre. the huge shocking GH casting news - [ profile] cheapevilgirl, I apologise again for spamming your twitter feed!!

Came home and watched clips of yesterday's SpinMax non-wedding, which I thought was lovely and very well done; also enjoyed the JOlivia I Love You's. I'm really enjoying that couple, and I intend to do so until they inevitably get thrown under the bus and she winds up with Sonny. (I have read no spoilers, that's just my spec, because Sonny always gets the girl. SHUDDER.)

The other big soap story of the day is that Victor Newman is being written out of Y&R while his portrayer, Eric Braeden, is in fairly serious contract negotiations. Apparently at the end of his last tape date, he told the other cast and crew that he didn't know if he'd be back, and basically said his goodbyes and thank yous..... I have no doubt that he'll be back, but it wouldn't break my heart to have a break from Victor for a while. He's like Sonny in GH - always wins, always gets the girl, and Jack Abbott (the wonderful Peter Bergman) always comes off worst (I'm a Jack fan, in case you couldn't tell!)

I'm sure there's more I want to say, but I'm so tired I can barely talk, never mind type.....
