In what seems to be the way of things at CBS right now, it's a financially motivated decision - they're also negotiating with Paget to reduce her ep count.
My main thought is: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Beancounting like this has been the ruination of many a show...
And, of course it's the women suffering when costs must be cut, I don't even watch this show and I find myself feeling a little pissed off. Because it's always the women getting the shaft, also, I can believe they're firing Mary Lisbon.
Oh, it gets worse - latest report is that they're bringing in a new female cast member! I just don't understand what they're at right now! (Besides pissing off a LOT of fans!)
Well, that's just stupid, why wreck an established cast just to ~shake things up? This scares me because this is CBS and The Mentalist is on CBS and one day we might as well be in this position because you just know for these fuckups women are all interchangeable and they might have this brilliant idea of ~shaking things up by getting rid of Van Pelt or Lisbon.
I know; its completely ridiculous. I don't buy into changing things just for the sake of changing them. General concensus seems to be that s5 of CM wasn't as good as others, but I think the writers had a lot to do with that, the actors can only work with what they;re given.
